Build 57. Speed Sensor
Fitting the speed sensor was quite a quick job, however I decided that I would make use of the "earth mod" as outlined in the "Caterham 420 Detailed Build Blog". When I fitted the Rear ARB brackets, I installed the wire ready for this part to be finished.
My speed sensor was mounted on the RHS of the car and required larger black bolt/nut for the speed sensor to attach to in order to attach to the Rear ARB bracket. Note the small washer which is part of the original sensor goes on the very end of the sensor nearest the drive shaft (before the final nut)
I used a small pin tool to remove the wires from the original Econoseal mounted to the car in order to replace the earth wire to use the newer earth wire I mounted to the ARB clamp. I also took this time to apply some heat shielding through out to make the wires a lot neater.
After the first 500 miles of driving, the speedo sometimes didn't register and so I decided to repath the earth to the original position and the speedo has been fine since. This means that my earth mod was not correctly earthing, likely due to the powder coat on the chassis. If I have problems further down the line, I'll perhaps re utilise this mod.
Once I was happy with the wiring, I then chose to drill a small hole as outlined in the manual, to attach the cable tie bracket to, I did this from the inside of the cockpit to the outside, so I could make sure to miss the carpet and the velcro strips I added.
